When a woman goes to an abortion clinic or calls in, her medical history is taken (for example does she take any medicines, or have any other illness such questions are important in determining the number of abortion pills to be administered to a particular patient). Abortion pills should be prescribed after a face-to-face medical consultation or a telephonic consultation or even email messaging
The doctor will give you an abortion pill/ abortion pills which you will put under the tongue. This pill is meant to block the female hormone called Progesterone which will detach the fertilized egg or fetus from your body resulting into periods
Another tablet may be inserted inside your vagina or not (ie putting it again under the tongue. You will experience period pains so you don’t need to be worried since its part of the abortion process. This pill will cause cramping and then bleeding. The cramps may become strong.
You will see some large blood clots that may last an hour or more. We therefore recommend use mormal pads and not tampons. You can also apply a warm water bottle to your abdomen if this makes you more comfortable.
After you have taken the Abortion Pills, you might:-
- Vomit
- Feel thirsty
- Feel dizzy
- Running Stomach or diarrhea
- Hot flashes or a slight fever might occur
- bleeding accompanied by the passage of blood clots and tissue.
All these symptoms should not scare you who you since you have made up your mind that you need a medical abortion pills they are normal occurrences.
You should take care of yourself in the 48 hours after having the abortion pills procedure by following the advice of your doctor or healthcare PROVIDER. This can include:
not smoking, drinking alcohol or using HERBAL supplements or illegal drugs.
To lessen the risk of infection DURING the week after having the procedure, you should not::
1. insert ANYTHING into your vagina, including tampons (don’t use tampons until your next period),
2. have vaginal sex
3.perform any strenuous activity, including sport or heavy physical work, until the bleeding stops
4. go swimming or have a bath (you can shower).
NOTE: You should see your doctor if the vaginal bleeding doesn’t stop within the days told to you by your doctor after having the procedure.
